2012 Intern- Nwk TV, Government Access TV Facility- City of Newark, N.J.

 

Industry: Local Cable Government Access

 

Location: 1020 Broad St. Suite 2, Newark, N.J. 07102

 

Internships are UNPAID, require academic credit and structured to last 12 weeks. Resume, cover letter and a college reference is required. Students should have a strong academic record (3.0 strongly preferred) and good character. Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to start of internship. Students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. students must be currently enrolled in school during internship).

 

About Nwk TV

Nwk TV Channel 78 is a Government Access television production and programming facility established in January 2009 for the City of Newark, New Jersey. The mission behind “Nwk TV” is to enhance the brand of city government, provide greater accessibility and an understanding of its policies, procedures, resources, events, activities and services by producing and distributing information as authorized by the City of Newark. The channel is charged to provide its audience with increased community awareness of the depth and breadth of important issues confronting the city generating a source of information that is vital to an informed citizenry.

 

Job Description: Assist staff with studio and field productions which may include operating the studio camera, floor managing or running teleprompter as needed. Other duties include: prepping for productions including but not limited to: studio and set preparation, maintaining studio, lighting, script and tape organization for productions, assisting with editing process. Maintaining and typing on air station announcements.

Some administrative duties include: answering phones, filing, photo copying, booking and greeting show guests. Other duties as assigned by Studio Manager. Intern schedules may vary and include week and weekend work.

Qualifications: Candidate should be seeking a career in journalism and or TV production (must have some TV production experience and familiarity with Final Cut editing software). Should be self-motivated, able to multi-task, have a good attitude, and be able to function well in an environment with short deadlines and quick turn around. Preference given to Newark residents. Spanish or Portuguese bilingual a plus. Web knowledge is helpful.
