How do I get a Peddler's license?
Citizens should contact the Division of Tax Abatement and Special Taxes License office at 973-733-6390.
The fee is normally $125 (cash, money order, certified check) if citizen's age is below 62 and a $50 if citizen's age is 62 and older. Veterans do not pay a fee, but need to bring their veteran's license.
Please bring to the office the fee; one small photograph; Proof of State Tax ID number from the State Division of Taxation and Revenue and Proof of US citizenship: Driver license, DMV Identification or US Passport; Truck or pushcart must be inspected by the Department of Child and family well-being, Neighborhood and services and the Fire department. Merchandise pushcarts need only be inspected by the department of Neighborhood Services; Applicants reviewed by Newark Police Warrants Squad (22 Franklin Street) for records check. All of these materials must be returned to room B-17 at City Hall.
Food Peddlers requirements (In additional to requirements above)
Completed and attached physical examination form, signed by your doctor. Food handlers permit from the Department of Child and Family Well-Being. General Permits are handled by the Finance office.
