CITY OF NEWARK REMINDS RESIDENTS THAT CITY HALL WILL BE CLOSED
ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, IN OBSERVANCE OF ELECTION DAY HOLIDAY;
Curbside Trash Collection Will Continue;
However, There Will Be No Street-sweeping and Recycling Collection
Newark, NJ – November 2, 2011 - Mayor Cory A. Booker reminded residents today that City Hall will be closed and all non-emergency Newark municipal services will be suspended on Tuesday, November 8, for the observance of the Election Day holiday. Police, fire, and other uniformed emergency services including curbside trash collection will be unaffected. Street sweeping and recycling collection will not be picked up and will resume services on Tuesday, November 15th. Residents who have private contractors for curbside trash and recycling collection will not be affected. In addition, alternate side of the street parking will be suspended.
“I urge all of Newark’s residents to uphold the City’s sanitation ordinances during this weekend and holiday. By being good neighbors, we will enjoy a cleaner and greener Newark,” said Mayor Booker. “While Newark City Hall will be closed in observance of this important holiday, the City will be ready to respond to any emergency.”
Curbside trash collection will continue on Tuesday, November 8, and street sweeping and recycling collection will not be picked up. Residents should put their trash out no later than 6 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8th.
The Department of Child and Family Well-Being’s inspection services, transportation for seniors and home-delivered meal services and health clinic, will not operate on Tuesday, November 8. In addition, the Division of Vital Statistics will be closed. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates, or marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at City Hall.
The
Municipal Court will also be closed on Tuesday, November 8. However, a judge will be available to preside over bail hearings for defendants in custody. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714.
