ON THURSDAY, MAY 26, AT 10 A.M., AT BEARS AND EAGLES RIVERFRONT STADIUM, AT 450 BROAD STREET
Ballpark will become an obstacle course for 3,000 Newark schoolchildren;
Event will promote fitness and precede Newark Bears’ Opening Day game
Newark, NJ – May 24, 2011 –Mayor Cory A. Booker, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., Deputy Mayor of Neighborhood Engagement Margarita Muñiz, the Newark Bears, General Mills, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, former New York Giants star Tiki Barber, representatives of Let’s Move! Newark, the Newark Public Schools, and Healthfirst NJ, will host the first annual Let’s Move! Newark Day as part of the Newark Bears’ Opening Day festivities, on Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The stadium is located at 450 Broad Street.
Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium will be turned into a Let’s Move! Newark obstacle course before the game, with stations for yoga, baseball clinic, dance, and a boot-camp styled course, for 3,000 Newark Public Schools students. After completing the stations, there will be a pre-game ceremony at 10:15 a.m. After that, the students will enjoy all the action of the Bears’ Opening Day game against the Rockland Boulders, starting at 11 a.m.
