Newark Council Urges Residents to
Help Reduce Crime

NEWARK—Mahatma Gandhi advised that people should be the change they want to see in the world. It is a sentiment that Newark Municipal Council President, Mildred Crump believes in whole-heartedly. Coming on the heels of a triple homicide on the grounds of Mount Vernon School over the weekend, followed by three more murders on Sunday, President Crump believes that it is advice that should be applied in peoples’ everyday lives.

“Newarkers are tough, strong, resilient people. We’re used to carrying heavy loads. But we have to understand that crime is a burden that we should not bear. Every crime has at least one witness and chances are they are going to tell somebody. It is up to us to decide in what kind of community we are going to live. It’s not enough to be sick and tired. I urge everyone to call Newark Police Department's "Crime Stoppers" anonymous tip line at 877-NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477) or the "Gun Stoppers" line at 877-NWK-GUNS (877-695-4867) with any information,” Council President Crump said.

Information that leads to arrests or indictments could result in cash rewards of up to $2,000.
