AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT OF 2009
(FEDERAL ECONOMIC STIMULUS)
The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) is providing supplemental allotments under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 ("Recovery Act"). These allotments will supplement Program Year (PY) 2008 (July I, 2008 through July 30, 2009) allotments for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Title I Adult, Dislocated Worker and Youth Activities Programs. Allocations for the local areas are based on the normal formula provisions defined in WIA guidelines, including the hold harmless formula for Adult and Youth Services. This project is centered around providing summer employment opportunities for the City’s disadvantaged youth. This will provide constructive outlets for young people, offering participants a chance to lay a solid foundation for their future.
This project focuses on providing adult employment and job training activities, which also include supportive services. This will help to prepare Newark’s adult workers to compete for jobs in a number of industries.
This project is aimed at assisting those who are recently unemployed or those who have exhausted their unemployment compensation. This project will help to reconnect Newarkers with employment, while allowing local businesses to secure the workers they need.
